The good the fun and what can be improved...... Blackened chicken and grouper wraps are fantastic. Forego the ranch dressing or at least get it on the side you won't need it! Nice happy hour specials and loads of beers on tap if you are so inclined. Service was great! Very accommodating and yet laid back! They have outdoor seating on deck over looking the intercostal and the docks! We have been several times when we are in the area just to chill and enjoy the afternoon! Ok avoid the chicken nuggets they are the same as the McDonald's ones and the fries looked limp for $5 you get the better deal at McDonald's. Ok saying that they have wings and and some tasty looking sauces go for bone in... The boneless wings are the chicken nuggets from above with a steeper $ tag. Go thru drive thru and get 10 for $1.50 or whatever the current deal is. That area of johns pass stinks of rubbish. It's not just this restaurant... FYI.

I have to admit, even though this is a total and complete tourist trap, it's pretty damn fun! Been here a couple of times and the only reasons were to get out of the intense heat. This place is infested with misting fans. Feels incredible. Never had the food here so I can't comment on that but the vibe is great. Friendly crowd, great staff and the bands are amazing! I will definitely come back next time I'm in the area.

This review is for the Treasure Island Tap House owned by The Hut The atmosphere is clean and large, the food was good, but I was warned about the loud music. The food is very pricey for a bar scene and took a long time to deliver. When I received my meal, it was cold. There were only 4 tables full when I arrived, and 3 of them left very quickly. I told the bartender that the music was ridiculously loud, and her comment was, "I know, I've told them to turn it down 3 times." I could not hear the person sitting next to me! When the band went on break, the 3 people that were left in the establishment were so relieved! The bartender even commented on how nice it was (then fix it!!! People leaving = no money!). I don't know what audience they are trying to appeal to. The menu prices do not align with the younger, loud music. We won't be back.

Great lunch with wonderful atmosphere. Really nice waiter who shared lots of useful info (including grabbing a map and giving us tips on where to visit). Food was excellent. Feels like you are in a Hawaiian Grotto.

Cool island theme bar on the water in Johns pass. Full bar and live music with reasonable drink prices. Bartenders were friendly and service overall was very good. Lots of tv's and 10+ beers on tap. Didn't try the food. Looked mostly like typical bar food with lots of fried options. Definitely a cool place to go if you are looking for drinks on the water. Live band played of variety of music and took many different requests.

Just plain old good food. Had the big fish sandwich with fries. Could have fed a small army with it...tasty!

Visibly this place is well put together. Great location. The food was over priced and poorly executed. My friends ordered boneless buffalo wings and got McDonalds chicken nuggets dipped into cheap buffalo sauce. Literally the same shape and texture as McDonalds Nuggets. Priced at $1 each, we would've gone to McDonalds instead. I had a burger that was dry, unflavored, and over priced. Nice staff. Great performers. Sangria was sub-par. Overall we were highly disappointed.

Crap hut. I realised the $20 I gave them to take off my bill, so I could put the rest on my card, disappeared and the whole amount was charged to my card for some reason. So instead of the $15 tip I wrote down, you charged everything to my card and decided to give yourself the $20 cash as a tip. Won't be back.

Located in John's Pass (cute touristy) area, the Hut is an open air bar/restaurant that reminds me of many Mexican/Caribbean beach joints. You step down into the main area, lots of palapa covering, huge bar, tons of seating, must be hopping in the evenings. Casual food, but I was able to get a veggie wrap with rice and beans on the sideinstead of fries. Nothing to replace the cheese; hummus or avocado would have been great. She didn't make us drink our wine from plastic cups. Nice female bartender gave us the scoop on the area. A crow came through looking for scraps and an occasional screech was heard, not from other birds but some patrons. Are people really afraid of crows?

This bar is tucked in between the many shops at johns pass. One might think due to its location that it would be filled with tourists. That does not seem to be the case. It's a mix of visitors and locals. First time we went here we wanted to watch the gator game. Keep in mind this is florida and one can only imagine the disappointment when they wouldn't put it on one of their many TV's. The other downside is there is only one restroom for women. So you end up waiting. However, they have these comical signs one can read while trying to ignore the urgency calling from one's bladder. I enjoy the outside seating the most, and because of its location a lot of foot traffic goes by. Great for people watching!!!

StopWped by here for an afternoon drink on the water. Paid $10 for parking directly next door but received a bogo drink coupon so it made it only $5.00 Was pretty crowded but managed to get two seats at the bar. They had a decent enough selection of beers on tap. We didn't eat but the obnoxious tourist sitting next to me deemed their wings "awesome" They looked heavily breaded and pre frozen. I wouldn't take his advice. I'd stop by here for a drink again, but I'd never eat here, nor would I come here in the evening after the band starts and it gets stupid crowded,

One of the highlights of our trip. The grouper sandwich and clam chowder were outstanding. The coconut shrimp appetizer is more than enough for a meal. Great drinks, great service and atmosphere. And we saw dozens of dolphins during our meal. Highly recommend this place.

One of my favorite things to do on a Sunday is to hit up the Hut for beautiful scenery, an array of drinks, and a fantastic live duo. This duo can be found on a stage above the bar which in my opinion is awesome. They are super lively and talented and I find myself never wanting to move on to the next destination because I am so happy at the hut. There is outdoor seating and a deck directly on the boardwalk at johns pass to add to the exterior; but the interior is what is spectacular. They have done the tiki bar theme on steroids! A definitely fun place to hit up.

The restaurant is a token tourist trap typical in a coastal vacation spot. Average food with inflated prices with average service at best. You can get a lot better quality food with a reasonable price tag close by. I've dined here 3 times and each time I've left disappointed and feeling a bit queasy. Only positive is the laid back atmosphere and the waterfront dining option.

  • Amy Z.

Check Melissa Z's review for much of my sentiments as well. Conch fritters were overpriced and not very good.

    (2)
  • Kyle M.

Pretty bad. Service was slow. Server didn't get any of our three orders correct...probably because she tried to remember without writing anything down. Chicken sandwich wasn't very good. Typical tourist trap.

  • Ryan N.

Oh if only their food was as good as their view and location. As a local, we only go here to drink. Sucks that they don't take pride in making good food to go along with their killer location. But why would they? Clueless tourists will continue to go there to eat.

We should've looked at Yelp BEFORE stopping here. The $16 grouper wrap isn't the worst I've ever had, but it's only worth about $10-$12, and the places that sell it for more at least give you chips, rather than charge you separately for the worse french fries I've ever seen (I only saw them, since I couldn't eat them). Those fries were a barely-cooked soggy mess. To be clear, the low rating is not about the prices ... it's about the combination of being severely overcharged for sub-standard food and service. By the way, to the person who posted the picture of the toilet on a food site, you could've just told us about it. Thanks for the effort though. I actually feel like I'm being too generous with two stars, but I have in fact experienced worse. In any case, we won't be going back to The Hut.

  • Leon G.

Great boardwalk seating out in the bay. Food was typical fried seafood sort of stuff. Onion rings are only OK. Scrimp tacos were pretty tasty but heavy on the sauce. Pulled pork was good. Clearly a spot to visit for the setting (out in the water). If looking for a water front pub dining experience I'd go back. Food worth 2 stars, setting worth 4.

    (3)
  • B P.

over priced, poor service, and crappy food. Nice View and a fun beach feel, but that's about all. Done taking my out of town guests here

Food is tasty drinks are reasonable and very tasty. Overall a really cute restaurant. The only reason I took away one star is because the bathroom was truly disgusting. Our kids had some virgin frozen drinks and drank with smiles.

Bad service. Workers act more like patrons then staff. Food ok, great view. Who ever owns this joint needs to get a handle on the staff

We really have only been here to see one of our favorite local bands: Sweet Spot. The drinks are always great, but it's a great and fun atmosphere to hang out and enjoy some fun music with a bunch of friends in the evening. The food is tasty, however, if you are looking for something new and different this isn't the place. if you are looking for some tasty nachos you can find them here. Our server took great care of us, she was super sweet and attentive. This place is more of a tiki bar than a restaurant - not someplace you'd bring your kids to (people standing around the bar, listening to music or getting drinks, a little crowded when trying to pull a small child around). Bring your kids to Friendly Fisherman if you want to have a quiet family dinner. Also, the restrooms were clean and fully operational this past weekend, Labor Day weekend.

We were starving and stumbled upon this place. We got good food and a great show! Wonderful singing I wish i could have met the musicians they were perfect! This made my day thank you so much!

  • Alex A.

Location is prime. Service staff all seem asleep and uninterested. I had the BLT turkey wrap with fries. It was ok. I couldn't finish it due to taste.. Bathrooms are some of the worst I've seen. My buddy had to send his food back because they screwed it up. Definitely not going back.. They did do the onion rings right, for that you get a single star.

    (1)
  • Andrew S.

Have never eaten here, this is purely from the bar experience sort of view. It's a nice place to come, relax and enjoy good, live music all weekend. Beer and mixed drinks are reasonably priced, bands are lively and interactive. They'll also make a fresh margarita, not just straight up sour mix, if you ask. Outside bar/restaurant closes at 11PM since they're right on the water (noise ordinance). They have a military discount.

  • Richard T.

Glad I did not read the reviews before going here, I might not have gone. we had a great server and had a few drinks, and some really good appetizers the conch fritters were very good, and the mango pineapple hot sauce really complimented them. I had the grouper sandwich , and it was fantastic! a little pricy, but it is in a tourist area and the drinks were expensive.

  • John K.

Went here a few times when I lived in the area. very nice island themed atmosphere which I really love. Food is not that bad, I had the blackened grouper sandwich with fries and also had the grouper nuggets appetizer, all were cooked well. Service was not that great the last couple times I went, the server was not friendly and seemed aggravated then again it was kind of busy and they were short staffed both times but that is no excuse to act like that on front of customers who they get tipped by, a little advice to the servers, no matter how bad it gets just hide your frustrations, remember, service with a smile. I will probably still return when I get back to the area.

During Labor Day weekend we went jet skiing at Woody's and decided to stop next door at The Hut Bar and Grill for lunch. My sister and I ordered the shrimp tacos and my brother-in-law ordered the monster fish sandwich. My brother-in-law's sandwich looked like a huge fish stick and the texture of the fish led us to believe the fish was frozen, not fresh. The shrimp tacos were inedible and may have been the foulest tasting dish I have ever ordered at a restaurant. I ordered grilled shrimp on my tacos, but there were no grill marks on the shrimp and the shrimp was undercooked. The soft taco shells smelled really weird... after one bite I could not continue and tried to eat the center of the taco to avoid the shell. My sour cream had yellow liquid in the plastic cup so I skipped using it in fear that the sour cream was spoiled. It's a shame the food was not better. The music and water view gave the bar a really cool vibe. I really appreciated the misting fans on the deck and all of the waitresses were super friendly. Maybe I would come back here for a beer, but I would skip ordering food here.

Cute little bar grill right on the boardwalk at johns pass. We ordered the quesadilla appetizer and it was pretty good. For dinner we had steak tacos & burgers. Burgers were juicy and flavorful and fries were thick and crispy. The steak tacos were ok. The steak looked more like meat on an Italian beef than pieces of steak & the used cabbage instead of lettuce, which was no biggie for me. The drinks were good. The service was good to but it wasn't very busy. There are several other restaurants in that area so before i say I'd go back I think I'd like to check out the others first and then compare.

Oh, this place has so much potential with its shady view of the water, live music and tons of flat screens. The food is oh-kay; edible, but the ingredients are so cheap and it's obvious. If I could make something better - and i'm no Iron Chef- then I have to score a place low. I feel like this place is cutting corners with food quality and are just taking advantage of the hungry visitors to John Pass. To me, this place had the best looking menu, but the cooks totally failed to deliver. With so many other wonderful places to try over the bridge to Treasure Island, I wouldn't recommend eating here. You have to pay for parking to eat here because it is located in John's Pass - its unavoidable. With the added cost if parking, it's not worth paying to park here for a less than average meal.

I stopped in here after from being out on a boat and actually walked across the John's Pass bridge to get there and I'm glad it was not disappointing. It definitely had the tourist feel, but that is to be expected. There was a two man band playing and they were awesome. I had the chips and salsa and the fish spread appetizer. The chips were great and there was plenty of them, but the salsa was lacking. I only received two tablespoons, if that. I found that a bit odd since it didn't appear to be freshly made. It reminded me of Publix brand salsa and not the kind found from their deli (the jarred kind found by the chips). The fish spread was scrumptious and served with jalapenos, which was a nice addition. The service was great for busy Saturday afternoon. I would definitely visit again, but skip on ordering the chips and salsa.

  • Tina L.

You can't beat the location and the service was good and the beer was "kinda" cold. The food? Not good. This is a place to watch boats and have a drink, eat elsewhere.

Great place for a "stop off" drink and a nosh will enjoying Johnspass. Friendly service staff and decent bar type food make for an enjoyable afternoon. Relax and enjoy the island vibe.

Great location on the boardwalk at John's Pass. We were three people and ordered the fish and chips, which was lightly fried, mild and great. We also had the crabcake sandwich which was decent. Lastly we had the grouper sandwich which was very good. All in all, good experience and would recommend. Prices were a bit high, but considering the location, it was expected.

  • James M.

Soggy nachos that were cold. Cabbage tacos contain trace amounts of fish, excuse me fish tacos with lack of fish . A server that seemed to be annoyed that she had customers and did nothing to correct the issues we had with our meal. Plastic table and drink ware. Restrooms so nasty that we would not let our children use them. Good location with decent atmosphere this is why we gave it a two star rating. In our opinion avoid at all costs. Should have read yelp reviews before entering. My bad, that won't happen again !!!!

Anyway, was here on a Saturday afternoon. It was hot - blazingly hot - but my girlfriend and I had been to the John's Pass area one other time before when a dolphin watching cruise docked briefly, and we wanted to check it out. I was surprised that there were only a couple (3, I think) seafood places on the pier considering how large it was (not counting Bubba Gump), but they all had similar menus so we picked the one that looked the best. The Hut has an "outdoor" location in the sun where the seating was first come first serve. They also have an "outdoor" location, but its also kind of indoor in that it's open air, but you have the pier above you and you're well shaded. There's also a tiki bar down here and they had some live music. We both got a blackened grouper wrap, and I was pleased (my girlfriend was not as happy though). To me though, it was fresh, the jalapeno cheddar wrap was different, but very good, and the taste of the fish came through even with the spicy wrap and other ingredients. Service was friendly and attentive. My only complaint would be the music was bad. But, what do you expect from live music at a bar on a Saturday afternoon during college football season? I think this was a fine place for lunch. Plenty of options, nice and shady to get out of the head, but still enjoy the outdoors, and good food with nice portions. Not the best seafood place, but still a decent choice.

The staff and atmosphere was incredible. The food was awful!. We ordered the shrimp cocktail and conk fritters. The shrimp was nasty and smelly. I literally spit it out and I've never done that with shrimp. Also, the fritters were mushy with zero crunch. It's such a shame because this place has so much potential. I'd probably skip this place if I were you.

  • Ashley E.

Drinks were crazy over priced and our server Colleen was flat out socially awkward as hell! I got a burger, husband had wings... Both were good for bar like food but not great! Husband ordered a vodka tonic and got a vodka seltzer?! Gross. However, not wanting someone to spit in the food, he drank it anyways because it was $8 after all! He then ordered a CoronaRita... Came in a PLASTIC cup... $10.75... And also tasted tangy like (almost like it was made with seltzer too) so it made me worry about the length of time the mix had stayed out. It closes at 10, and they had lights off and were putting chairs on the tables at 8:40! Ummmmm?! It was a holiday weekend and it was the ONLY place that was dead! Should have gone else where! It has a great concept but it would do it well to be on Rest. Impossible or Bar Rescue!

Birds are on the dock and they will try and steal your food. Not a good place for a date and the device here just sucked. Looked better than it actually was.

  • Glenn L.

This is a great little place is you are looking to relax on the water. Prices are a lot higher than you would think for a dive bar looking place (beer 6.99+ and mixed drinks 9.99+ each) The fish tacos were alright and grouper sammich was good but was just a sandwich no sides or fries and was 15.00. Wools go back for atmosphere and an appetizer but that's it.

  • Chuck S.

Everything about this place was mediocre, nothing was that good, except the overpriced girly drink I got. The look to the restaurant is okay but it just also seems dirty. I had one of their specialty drinks which was delicious. Our waiter was rude and acted like he didn't want to be there. Which sucked cause we had a big group and gratuity was already added and he did not deserve that much. I got the grouper tacos which were pretty decent but again kind of bland. I don't think I would go back, because there are just a ton of food choices. Plus them playing Jimmy Buffett the entire time was annoying as crap, I'm not a big fan.

My first restaurant experience in Florida's tranquil west coast this tiki hut bar with live music was a very nice find of my companion and I was so thriled she shared it with me. We had some rather lovely medium size grilled shrimp and I also opted for a more traditional pub dish of fish and chips - but they were quite fresh, had a lovely but not heavy beer batter coating and also came with some pretty darn good slaw. It's not the best food in the world but it doesn't appear to all be frozen either; there is flava in the dishes I sampled. I think the crowd is a li'l more tatted (and red necked) lads and lasses who live for their live music in a country-rock style - but they were young and having fun and I didn't feel intimidated or out of place. Not everything about The Hut is my cup of tea but I'd definitely go back for the vibe.

Great atmosphere, waitress was nice. Food is bar menuish. Saw LOTS of people come in sit down look at menu and leave. Watched manager(?) walk right past people who were coming in door not sure where to go. Salsa is from a jar, cheap jar and the chips were stale. 3.99 for that! Once again staff great, to bad they have to suffer here.

My mom was visiting from Philadelphia and we made our way down to the boardwalk on Madeira Beach. We were just walking along (it was a beautiful sunny day) and decided to have lunch outside. We grabbed two bar stools on the little pier section of the restaurant where you are sitting out over the water. We had beer/wine, grouper tacos, fish spread, and a vegetable wrap. The beers were big, the tacos were fresh and flavorful, and the fish spread was just ok (kind of looked and tasted like canned tuna fish). But, we had a great time, got some sun...it was perfect for a long, leisurely lunch on the boardwalk. We even got to see dolphins only a few feet away from us!

I must start by saying we were on vacation in treasure island and not one of those weird couples who complain about everything. We had an AMAZING vacation and went to many amazing place in the area. This review is posted by people who eat and drink out WAY too much. We are super quiet professionals who each had two drinks. Not wasted. Not loud. Not rowdy. And our check was cashed out at 830 pm as was every other guest at the bar. A guy came in and started pulling up bar mats, etc. We asked if it was a shift change and we were told "no. The bar closes at 10". The bar closes at 10 and you cash ALL checks out at 830 AND start mopping? Way to make guests feel welcome. Not to mention the place really started filling up at 8. I'm sure an owner or manger would love to know a bartender who wants to go home early shoos out well paying (and well tipping) customers. Plus $6 for a beer in a plastic cup? No thanks. We can spend our $ elsewhere.

Terrible experience! The view from the deck was beautiful but that was it. First off took forever to get service. It is not a good thing if the waitress apologizes for not 'stopping by for a while'. The drinks were mediocre. Nothing to brag about but what really did it for us was the seafood. My cousin once ate there and said she got the shrimp and got severe food poisoning. I am one to make my own reviews so I tried the seafood for myself. I love fish and got the grouper nuggets. When I took the first bite it was chewy and grey. There was one piece that was white and flaky. I refused to eat and said I will just eat the fries. As I was leaving I heard the manager tell our waitress if she didn't want fish then she shouldn't have ordered it. Of course he could have been talking about someone else but then that would mean I am not the only one...

Terrible food. The prices were so expensive with tiny portions, they used frozen/can ingredients. The frys were gross and soggy and the drinks were over priced with little alcohol.

Chicken wings were great. Server showed up to place order and did not show up again till bill time. A great employee named Ashley originally from philly showed up and did such a great job we tipped her much more than the actuall server. Server coudlve walked with 15 dollar tip..oh well..Other than that we loved the food. Manager needs to make sure the servers are stayimg on top of their tables. Next table i saw the people sat and they waited and waited and waited...who knows if they got properly served. Great setting great food but needs some improvements. Drinks are pricey. Wings and shrimp were great.

This is the place to be in the evening!! The band was ROCKING above the bar. Something I've never seen before. The bartenders were having a blast and the whole bar was engaged. Drinks were reasonably priced, but with the atmosphere being more than anything we expected, I have to give two huge thumbs up!!

So we were at John's Pass and decided that it looked fun and wanted to give it a try. So we stopped and well it was kinda disappointing. I asked the server about the frozen bar drinks and she just gave me a menu as a server if you want to make the money you gotta sell a menu but I got an island dri k and it was good but I couldn't taste the alcohol at all. We got the shrimp cocktail and it was 11.99 so we were expecting more than just 5 tiny shrimp. And they weren't that great. The flavor was eh and it wasn't worth the price. So we moved on to the entrees and I got the philly cheese steak and it was good nothing special but good. My hubby got the monster fish sandwich and he seemed to enjoy it but he thought the fries were undercooked and maybe a little cold. So we got the check and the server waited about 15 before the check was processed which really irritated me because well I'm a server. But overall mediocre food and mediocre service.

Cute location, good drinks, but don't come here for the food! Very cheap and overpriced food, my sisters small sandwich didn't even come with fries.. Service was very nice it's just not a restaurant, much more a place to come get some drinks.

Blah.... Not really too impressed with The Hut.... It wasn't very crowded when we came for dinner, and I can see why. There were probably some better options in the near vicinity. The place itself is ok, not dirty, but not clean either. We sat in an open patio type area, I don't know if they had indoor seating. The service wasn't that great either. The waiter seemed like he wasn't to happy to be there, and some things were forgotten etc.. The food was average at best and prices were a little high in my opinion. It's not a terrible place, but I would explore other options before settling here.

The fuzzy peach frozen drink was amazing! The food was mediocre, but the band was amazing. The stage was on the second floor above the bar. Overall I'd love this place just to drink, but for food, I'd pass.

This is a beach bar that typically has live music, great people watching and delicious WINGS. I have tried a wrap sandwich too but keep going back for the wings. We always get a group of people together out there just to hang out for a few hours on the weekends from time to time.

I knew it was gonna suck, i fucking knew it bro. But the girly wanted to eat on the water and i was like ok , i know its gonna suck but lets eat on the water. And guess what??? it sucked, it sucked bad. Like a hoover vacuum would suck, maybe like one of those Dyson vacuum's, maybe like a fat hooker who forgot to eat breakfast would suck...................... It sucked I hate this place, i wont even get drunk here. The shrimp taco was so bad it deserved an award, the rice was hard. I felt like death later that night, appetite was shot for the following day. Fuck this place, i hope a large wave appears out of nowhere and demolishes this shithole

Worst dining experience I've had in years. Worst food probably ever. As a local, I've been dining at The Hut for the past 8-10 years, and have watched their food and service steadily decline - but last night was the last straw. We'd had a pretty mediocre meal there about a year ago, so weren't entirely excited to go back, but it's one of the only places that could seat our party of 14. And let me say: the service was fine. Our waitress was kind, got our orders correct and quickly. She was patient with our "active" brood of kids and very nice. But the food. Was. Awful. Disgusting. When a 4 year old won't eat a grilled cheese sandwich, you know something's amiss. And it was: the grilled cheese was made using two flat-ends of a hamburger bun, with some cheap American cheese SAUCE squished between them. No butter - just smashed together on a grill. The french fries were mushy and tasteless. I had a chicken philly and it came with ... get this ... chicken and that same cheese sauce. That's it. On a huge, dry hoagie roll that was inexplicably WET and mushy on the bottom (no pickles or anything juicy on my plate otherwise). Disgusting. A friend had a shrimp wrap that she sent back. My husband's sandwich had - quite literally - no flavor whatsoever. Everyone at the table was doing whatever they could with salt and hot sauce. We were starved and had waited a while for the table, so we had to do what we could - plus hungry kids are not about to get up and go somewhere else. In addition, the live music was incredibly loud (and I'm a huge fan of live music). We couldn't hear eachother or our server at all. When they took a break, the music that came on was just as loud. Completely ruined our experience. The Hut has one of the best locations and set-ups on John's Pass. If you're looking for a cold beer in a cool atmosphere, fine - but I will *never* spend a dime on food here again.

So gross. I usually look up reviews before I go anywhere but my boyfriend thought the decor and option to eat on the dock was cool. The food was one of the worst I've had. I had a "steak" quesadilla... which was basically Steak-Ums and 45 gallons of grease. Just don't eat here.

I have been coming to Hut Bar & Grille for 8+ years . . . Great place to grab a drink, hang out with friends and/or listen to live music on the water!!! They had a complete overhaul and face lift a couple years ago, with new tiki decor, small flat screens and a large projector screen above the bar for Sunday Football!! Yea food is a little pricey but it's a tourist area . . . So what do you expect! I have pub-crawed, bar hopped and hung out in almost every beach bar from St Pete Beach to Clearwater Beach and this is one of my favorites!!

Great burgers and fried food. Not to mention a great mix of tropical drinks. Lots of shopping nearby. Fun place to hang out for awhile. Live music often.

My fiance and I went here for lunch last Friday. Big mistake. The hostess looked about twelve, and seemed pissed when we requested to sit in the shade. (She sat us under a dripping awning with no umbrella at the table...all the other tables around us had umbrellas.) The waitress was nice enough. I ordered a pina colada and my fiance got a mediocre draft beer that he wasn't thrilled with. The pina colada was just okay...I didn't finish it. Here's where things go downhill. My fiance ordered the same thing: grouper tacos, no cheese or sauce. I got mine grilled and he got his blackened. I thought mine smelled a bit fishy when it came out, but I rarely eat fish, so I went ahead and ate it. BIG MISTAKE. That evening, after dinner (where everyone had the same meal, at a house), I got violently ill. I spent roughly seven hours vomiting all over the hotel room's bathroom. We traced it back to the fish I'd had at lunch. Not happy. The fact that this restaurant served questionable fish when they claim they are known for their fish sandwiches is just appalling. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. We definitely will not be back.

If you are looking for bad food, filthy restrooms, hordes of tourists and are willing to pay $10 to park in order to be miserable, then The Hut is the spot for you! Horrible. Avoid the entire Johns Pass complex if possible.

We are locals and have been here previously but the menu has changed and not for the better. Increased prices and decreased quality!! Fish and chips for $14.99 with two little pieces of fried fish... Caesar salads that were not good...birds bathing in the little pond in the middle of the restaurant and spraying nasty water everywhere and flying over your food on top of spending $90 and eating with plastic silverware.... We frequent johns pass but will not be eating again at "The Hut"

Neat place but way too pricey...$12.00 for a Coronarita!!! Ridiculous...not a place you would go for more than 1 drink or good food. We have also experienced poor service from a female bartender.

Food was disgusting. Service sub-par. The view on the deck wasn't great since the railings are at eye level blocking the water. I saw the waitress throw the remaining drink into the water below. Overall we were very disappointed and the prices were awful for the quality of the food.

Good band! Conch fritters were good and so were the fish tacos. Staff is wonderful. Best in john's pass. Get the Malibu Bucket. Yum! Yum! Hiccup!! Plenty of tvs with multiple games on. Fish and chips were excellent. They stayed hot for 20 minute and so fresh. Yummy. Did I say the staff was awesome!!

Great view if u sit on the dock. Good margaritas and beer. Food is average at best. Ordered a veggie wrap with cheese - mushrooms were from a can, wrap was wet and the cheese came half melted on a separate plate. I would go there for drinks only. Service not that great either.

Awful. Bad, overpriced food. I ordered fish and chips. Fries looked old, fish was poor (the plastic fork almost broke when I tried to spear a piece). My girlfriend's shrimp was tasteless. I realize that The Hut is just a "beach bar" type restaurant and it's not fair to expect gourmet food but I don't expect gourmet from a place like this. I do, however, expect edible, which this is not. Absolutely disgusting rest rooms. Has anyone there ever heard of bleach. You could turn over a gallon in that rest room and it probably still would not cut the stench. If that's the way they maintain their rest rooms (stuff that patrons can see) imagine what the kitchen must look like (stuff that patrons can not see). Basically The Hut is a filthy little hole serving terrible, overpriced food to unsuspecting tourists. Tourists: do yourself a favor and drive north 3 or 4 miles to The Conch Republic-same prices, 100x better food and service. I'll never eat here again. You couldn't pay me to eat here. Awful.

Living in Madeira Beach for the next few months and going to try all of the local spots for Grouper Nuggets and rate them --The Hut has always been a fun place that I have visited many times in the past 10 years and their Buffalo Grouper Nuggets were my first stop.. They are served with Ranch and BC. Flavor was good however the Buffalo did take over which prevented the fish flavor from coming through. Right now they are on the higher end of my list with no other comparisons.

The food is very good - especially the blackened grouper sandwich! You're really coming here to have a drink though, which is a great place if you don't have kids and are looking for someplace that has a Key West or Tahiti vibe. Quick service and decent beer selection. Oh, and did I mention the great live music??

I recommend this restaurant to anybody who wants a simple seafood dinner. When I came to this restaurant, I was pleased because I got to choose where I sat! I chose to sit outside, and basically the waiter notices if you haven't ordered anything yet. I waited for about 10 minutes until the waiter, but I was patient enough becuase I was distracted. I liked the fans outside that spray water to keep you cool. I eventually ordered the fish and chips, and fortunately, they were pretty good. I love how they cooked it fully through, and how it was juicy. If you order the fish and chips USE THE LEMON. It will make the fish and chips taste much better!

I am not sure what I was really expecting with this place but compared to other meals for the price it was not good. The waitress had three of our six orders incorrect, not special substitutions either but simple things like the cheese on a sandwich vs onions. It was so loud in the restaurant that we could not hear the waitress or each other. For the price and quality of food I wouldn't come back.

Blargh. We spent an evening wandering around John's Pass and were drawn to The Hut because we wanted to sit down and relax, and because it's one of the only places on the Boardwalk that has non-fish options. First, I want to say that if your sign says "Please Seat Yourself" you need to have a protocol established on your end. We sat for almost 15 minutes on the pier before someone came by to greet us and take our drink orders. And he seemed surprised that some other server hadn't been to us yet. It was great to sit on the pier at night with the strings of lights and the bay breeze, but that's about as nice as our experience got. The menu is very limited, and VERY expensive. Most items come a la carte, with a 99 cent up-charge for fries or beans and rice. I got the burger, on which you can pick two toppings, with mozzarella and grilled onions. Our server came back because he'd forgotten what came after "mozzarella" and I had to remind him, but my burger was still without onions when it arrived. They had to be brought separately. I had to ask two different people two times each to get a glass of ice water. Boyfriend ordered the chowder and the fish and chips, and his chowder was forgotten before it was brought out late and comped by a guy who was clearly a manager in over his head. We each got a frozen drink, and while the consistency was right, they were both equally flavorless. Mostly ice, is my guess. My burger was adequate, if a bit dry, and entirely forgettable. I've seen this before. Some place opens up in a great location and thinks that they can charge whatever they want for mediocre goods because the tourists won't know any better, and who cares if they never come back? There's always a new crop next season. My advice is to avoid this place, avoid, avoid, avoid.

A great spot to look out over the water and see dolphins, pelicans and boats. Great service and pleasant environment. A great spot to chill before or after you rent a Jet Ski or a day shopping around the square.

i had a philly cheesesteak sandwich, it was good, also had a 16 oz Dos X on draft that was delicious! Food was good, the service was ok, the live music was great!

i mean, you get what you pay for right? the service sucks pretty bad. my woman and i sat at a table and already had drinks and a waiter named jeff had approached us and we assured him if we needed to move we would.we didnt want to use his space if it was going to cost him money. he assured us it was fine then told us we had to leave cause my wife had her bathing suit on.ITS A FUCKING BEACH BAR JEFF! YOU PASSIVE AGGRESSIVE DOLT! its not like it was in bad taste either. the bartender was pretty light headed and i was invisable to her until a local got her attention. the atmosphere is fun and beautiful and the prices are what you would expect. I will be back and check it oout again.

We ended up here accidentally. We were going to Walt'z Fish Shak down the street, but they were closed, so we ducked in here to get out of the rain so we could decide where to go next. I hadn't intended on eating here due to the mediocre reviews, so we were just drinking at the bar. Our server was awesome and the atmosphere was a cool bar place. The rain wasn't letting up, so we broke down and decided to look over the menu. Nothing jumped out - typical bar food. The upstairs restaurant "Scully's" had a different menu that looked more interesting, but we opted for sandwiches at the bar. My husband ordered a cheeseburger which he said was decent. I had the grouper sandwich (fried) which was very average and truthfully, overpriced. It was about what I expected - filled the void, nothing more. If the grouper was perhaps $8, I would have given three stars, but as it was, I wouldn't recommend it for dinner.

Nice atmosphere since it is an open air bar. I do have to say it was the first time I have seen a drummer be a lead singer for a band. It was unusual to have the band set-up elevated at the end of the bar. The food was just average bar type food with some sandwiches and baskets thrown in. I had a grouper sandwich which was pretty forgettable. Don't go in looking for an exceptional foodie experience. Just pop in for the atmosphere and a few drinks. If you are hungry, you can get something to fill that need, but it just won't be that outstanding.

Great place to hang and our server was honest about what to order and it worked out great! If you want grouper, go to Docksides or the Grill, but for drinks and music its great order chicken nachos or quesadillas and relax!

Met my family who live in Fort Myers in John's Pass last weekend for a little reunion and a friend suggested The Hut Bar and Grille in Maderia Beach. We ordered several appetizers to include coconut shrimp and fish spread: very tasty!! The boys ordered the new Angus Burger with french fries and we had the Grouper sandwich: both were excellent!!! Bar a large tiki bar on the water and has live music too . . . have to say I was a little surprised to see the negative comments by other reviewers. I can only speak for my experience and we enjoyed the food, ambience and music.

The Hut has gone down hill from when I first experienced it several years ago. They have drastically simplified their menu, removing a lot of good items they used to have. The price is horrible for what you get. This used to be one of the better places to eat at John's Pass. Unfortunately that is no longer the case.

I go here all the time for wings and drinks! The atmosphere is the best, and I love walking around the Pass afterwords. You can sit on the boardwalk, or in the outdoor-type bar, or surrounding tables, with the totem-type Tahitian decor. The live music above the bar is awesome, and there are enough TV's for you to see any game you want at any time. Great place to go with friends or family.

I feel like 1 star might be too good for this place. I went in a group of 9 for lunch.... the drinks were ok and the live band was decent; the food on the other hand made me feel totally ripped off. No one in our group was happy with the food ir service. Even my 2 year old was unhappy with his grilled cheese. How do you mess up a grilled cheese. I paid 10.99 for 5 sliders and they didn't come with fries. Matter a fact, they didn't come with anything. I got 5 small dry burgers on 5 square dinner rolls. For 10.99 they could have put some cheese and grilled onions on it at least. Fries were another 0.99. My bill was 80 after tax (for 3 adults and 1 child).... I feel like it was worth 30; and that's mainly for the 4 drinks we had. Very dissatisfied.

Nice atmosphere -- eating under a tall "tiki hut" pavilllion over looking the water. Nice breeze. The hamburger was nothing special. The fish spread was tasty but a little thinner than we prefer. The Grouper Tacos were great. Cold beer. Our server, Dawn, was very efficient and friendly.

We were shopping at John's Pass and got hungry. Stopped by the hut for lunch. The seat yourself thing made service kind of slow. Loved the decor. The food however was less than impressive. Don't order the fried clam strips.

Lunch on the boardwalk at this restaurant was fan freakin' tastic! You can either eat inside where the decor is tahitian, with an indoor waterfall, or eat out on the dock. I mean actually on the dock. You overlook the water and can see many dolphins. I have been on dolphin excursions in the past, and it did not compare to the number of dolphins I saw jumping out of the water on this day. I went during Happy Hour, which means they give you a free drink for every drink you order. Instead of doing that, the waitress just made my margarita a double...I had two of these monstrous drinks, and they were quite strong. Yummm! Also had the coconut shrimp appetizer which was so good. I can't speak to the pricyness of this place as some random men paid my bill. I had no idea until I asked for the check and I was told the guys next to me paid it already...and they had left. Was this a random act of kindness? Wow, I loved this place even more now. The atmosphere is relaxing and inviting. I recommend it!

I'm not sure what everyone else is expecting from a touristy restaurant in a very touristy location with cheesy (fun!) decor and is right on the water... Luckily, I set my expectations low. And I was pleasantly surprised! We got a quesadilla and nachos, not too hard to mess up. Everything was good. It didn't blow my mind, but the servings were good sized and everything tasted fresh. Our server (AJ) was awesome and attentive. Drinks were good, albeit a little overpriced (again! a tourist area! what did you expect...) Everything is open to the outdoors, and you can sit out on the docks if you want. They had a band starting up when we left, with a stage actually above the bar (pretty cool setup). Overall, I enjoyed it.

Stumbled upon this place while I was shopping at John's Pass. Great ambience inside by the waterfall or out by the water. I had a super tasty blackened chicken sandwich while I chilled out with the reggae music.

The view is great, but there isn't a drink on the menu that isn't overpriced and doesn't have rum in it. The food is also overpriced and not very good, except the buffalo grouper nuggets, those are pretty ok.

This place is inviting due to the atmosphere and its on, or over the water location. It is great for drinks by the Pass and for watching all the many marine activities. Other than that though, it's a crap shoot really. The food is less than average and the menu is pretty limited. The drinks aren't that bad, but they're pricey. Service is about average for the area, nothing special. Sadly, this wouldn't be a repeat in my opinion.

Great ambience-- outdoor seating with some of them right on the water, plus live reggae music and sports on TV. Food was alright but probably just a little overpriced, but it's in a touristy area so we can't complain too much. I had a fish sandwich for $10, plus $1 to add fries. I also had a virgin pina colada for $5, which would have been $7-8 with alcohol. Overall, a decent experience for an out-of-towner dinner at the John's Pass Village.
